This is a list of my workshops The first four (eight because it's two a day) will be at Blandy. A different but similar set of classes will be taught in October and November in Berryville, so that if you missed a class you can learn something similar or take the similar class without being bored. The Blandy series might not be repeated because those have a Blandy-specific content, plus the amenities and and payment system in Berryville is easier on me when the classes are small.
The last class of the year will be Monday, November 30 (right after Thanksgiving? oh oh) on Chinese Signatures and Seals. In addition to getting your Chinese phonetic name to practice painting in ink, from large to small with links to videos for your name and to heard your name pronounced. You'll also get back (after the course) 10 artistic name choices to help you with a custom artists seal, and you'll get an additional calligraphy guide for it later! You can of course order these services now as they are in the shop, but locals might as well wait for the class as it is included in it. You'll practice with gridded paper and gridded felt and see how to scale down your writing as it gets closer and closer to seal size. You'll also learn about seals, where to get started, and how to select them. But if you're wondering where to get started right now, today, I would recommend a phonetic name seal, about four characters, in seal script, 15-20 mm and these are now available in my shop. Take a look at the designs, decide on one you like, and don't worry, I help you with deciding what to put on it. That's included in the price. I communicate with your carver to get a preview. Your seal will be sent directly to you from China- shipping is already included. So if you have a friend in the 48 states who needs a seal, they can also get one. I adore seals - there are even more I want to add. I only have two, and the more I learn, the more I want.
After that, I will be taking a nice winter break. I'd like to be learning some new things during the winter. Perhaps you can tell me what you would like to learn. With the money I make from the classes, I'd like to take some more classes from some of the best. I also have some plans to help people learn to write some calligraphy on their paintings. It's less nervewracking than writing in English - most people won't notice your mistakes - and adds alot to your work, not just in appearance but emotion.
You may also find some outreach dates where I am available to meet or sign up for classes or to pick up supply orders in between class if you wish to meet me. You can also look on the NSPA Courtesy Calendar and meet up with me on sketch dates to pick up an online order. I'm scheduled to do a indoor shop at my community center in Shenandoah Farms on December 5.
